Principal's Welcome
Kia ora Koutou,
I am immensely excited to be the new Principal of Waitaha Specialist School this week. I am focused on leading this awesome school to empower Ākonga and their whānau.
My background is in Specialist Education, including roles at the Ministry of Education and extensive experience in Deaf Education (teaching and leadership). I am passionate about collaboratively achieving positive, inclusive outcomes for all Ākonga and strongly believe in partnering with whānau, schools, and the Ministry to help them thrive.
On a personal note, I live in the Selwyn District with my husband, Gerard, and our two adult sons and their partners are a big part of our lives.
My goals for Term 4 are to build relationships, listen, and learn across all parts of the school. I am grateful for Maureen's support during my transition. Please feel free to pop in and say hello!
I look forward to working with the Waitaha School team in the spirit of Aroha, Mana, and Mahi Tahi.

Waitaha School is a state-funded specialist school for students who have qualified for Ongoing Resource Scheme (ORS) funding aged 5 – 21 years. We are an accredited fund holder for ORS verified ākonga. As of 2024, Waitaha School has satellite provision at West Rolleston School (Te Pā Harakeke ), Knightstream School (Te Tupu Harakeke) and Rolleston College (Te Rito Harakeke). Waitaha School also has a Community Hub that operates as part of our Waitech programme for our young people transitioning to community.
